The expansion of the concept of the state and its evolution throughout history have led to a variety of people's roles; so that the extent of people's influence in each government, along with other effective components in the formation of governments, has led to a distinct theory of the state. The concept of republic in this article refers to the role of people in the government. The main question is what position does republic have in Imam Khomeini's theory of the state? And the main hypothesis is that in the aforementioned theory, "the chosen guardian of the people" in addition to having the basis of divine legitimacy, has the basis of people's election and is objectively realized through this path. In fact, our independent variable is republic and the role of people in the political structure and the theory of the desired state of the Imam, and the dependent variable is the theory of the chosen guardian of the people. Republic in the aforementioned theory is a pillar for establishing an Islamic government and a model for implementing the rules and laws of religion.This article describes the characteristics of republicanism in Imam Khomeini's theory of state, which itself illustrates the differences and similarities between Imam Khomeini's theory and other theories of state, which, by utilizing the methodology of qualitative content analysis and Skinner's intentional hermeneutics, arrives at the association of republicanism with truths of the kind of virtues. That is, republicanism can be extracted from the core of religion, and therefore it can be deduced that republicanism is one of the essential principles of realizing the state envisioned by Imam Khomeini.
