“Ideological security” is a key dimension of state security and among the most significant achievements of any political system, serving as the foundation for all other efforts toward development and progress in society. The preservation of ideological security is thus essential for the stability of a political system. The components and indicators of ideological security may vary across societies and, over time, may weaken, be forgotten, or face threats. If not passed down through restatement and reproduction to future generations, the ideological backbone—considered the primary pillar of a country’s security—will erode, leading to diminished national security and growing threats. The ideology of the Islamic Republic of Iran is enshrined in its Constitution and defined by two pillars: republicanism and Islamicity, both of which Imam Khomeini strongly emphasized, considering their defense essential and their erosion as a direct blow to Islam itself. He consistently called on all individuals to safeguard this foundation. The central research question of this study is: What factors ensure the preservation of the ideological security of the state from Imam Khomeini’s perspective? Using a descriptive-analytical and explanatory methodology, along with the examination of documentary sources and Imam Khomeini’s speeches, the study concludes that, in Imam Khomeini’s thought, the key agents responsible for safeguarding the Islamic state’s ideological security include the seminaries, academic scholars, the institution of Velayat-e Faqih (Guardianship of the Jurist), the three branches of government, and the participation of the people—entities and individuals that either produce or preserve the political system’s ideological foundations.
